Southern Railway Headquarters in Chennai, a magnificent heritage structure dating back to the days of the erstwhile Madras & Southern Mahratta Railway, is a confluence of Indo-Saracenic and Dravidian Styles of classic architecture. With the central towers rising 125 feet and 6 inches above the roadway, this mammoth building was built of stock brick with Porbundar Stone. The foundation stone for this magnificent edifice was laid by His Excellency Lord Pentland in 1915 and the building was inaugurated by Her Excellency Lady Wellington in 1922.
